Lands’ End Craziness

Posted on Thursday 9 June 2005

One of these days I’m going to make it to the Lands’ End Warehouse Clearance Event in Dodgeville, WI. Every year for four days in August, they sell merchandise and catalog returns at up to 75% off retail price. Last year they had eighteen tractor trailers full of merchandise (about 142,000 items) and I hear that people drive rental trucks up there and go nuts. It would be better than shopping at a mall the day after Thanksgiving (which I love but I rarely get to do anymore)! I would get all of my family’s clothing sizes and do all of my Christmas and birthday shopping all at once. You see, in the Rodgers family a gift is better, even to the recipient, if you got a good deal on it. (Recipient: “What a nice shirt!” Giver: “Yeah. And, guess what. It was on sale at 25% off, I had a coupon for an extra 25% off all items, and it was senior discount day so I got another 10% off that!” Recipient: “That’s great!” said with sincere admiration and awe.) This Lands End deal sounds efficient and cost-effective to me but I haven’t convinced Randy that the 9-hour drive would be worth it, let alone facing the crazed mobs looking for their own bargains. In the Rodgers family a gift is better, even to the recipient, if you got a good deal on it. Anyone up for a road trip?

You are exactly right. People plan their vacatons around that sale. It gets pretty crazy with people that drive for days just to get to Dodgveille for the sale. it is an offer that you cannot pass up.

Let’s Go! That sounds like a load of fun. Maybe we could talk both the guys into going that way when they get tired they can depend on each other. What days in August?
