I Want Cheesy Poofs

Posted on Tuesday 14 June 2005

Yes, it’s quickly back to my food obsessions.

I’ve always been fond of Cheetos and for those who have a preference between puffs and crunchy, I must admit that I’ve belonged to both camps although I tend to prefer the puff variety lately. All Cheetos used to be my friends until Frito-Lay came out with the Flamin’ Hot varieties which are a little scary. Still, there are several varieties available for all tastes.

My current favorite is the Cheetos Natural White Cheddar Puffs. Our Super Wal-Mart only get these in once a week and I know this because I actually know the Frito-Lay guy on a first name basis (His name is Glenn. Is that a bad sign??). I have to time my visit to Wal-Mart just right in order to get even one bag as they sell out right away. The Natural White Cheddar Puffs do take a little getting used to as they don’t have that unnatural orange color that most Cheetos do and the cheese flavor is a bit mellower. It reminds me more of the flavor of Smartfood (white cheddar flavored popcorn for you poor souls who haven’t tried it yet) but you don’t have to deal with all of those popcorn husks getting stuck in your teeth.

In doing a little surfing regarding my love for the “cheesy poof,” I found out that there are at least 140 varieties of cheese puffs out there! That is mind-boggling to me, especially since I’ve only tried about a dozen of them. I’m way behind. If you have curiosity about almost any kind of snack food, check out taquitos.net where they have reviews on more than 2000 snacks. I especially like the Snack News page where they list news stories about . . . well. . . snacks!

For now, I’ll be returning to my work and the half-eaten bag of Mike-Sells Oven Baked Puffcorn Delites that are on my desk. Mmmm. . . tasty . . .
