I know it’s only mid-September, but I’m working on getting costumes together for Randy and me for Halloween (only 47 days left). It had been years since either of us dressed up for the occasion but at my office, there is an unwritten expectation that we all wear a costume so it’s becoming an annual task again. It tends to be a relaxed day at work because we have a costume contest and October 31st is also our annual health fair, sponsored by our employer, where we can get flu shots, get free health screenings, and free goodies (e.g., toothbrushes, pens, magnets, etc.). All-in-all, it’s a fun day.
My favorite costume that I’ve worn on Halloween was the year I dressed as a nun in a black and white habit. I guess I was pretty convincing because although I was surrounded by people very obviously in costume, the health worker who gave me my flu shot that day sincerely addressed me as “Sister” and asked if I needed a more private room for her to give me the inoculation as she would have to expose my arm (I assume she was concerned that this would be immodest for a nun). Needless to say, I told her that it was kind of her to offer but I declined. I didn’t have the heart to expose her error.
I work in the field of mental health, and my boss who has a Ph.D. says that it’s always interesting to see what costumes people choose to don on Halloween as the choice can be informative about that person. I’m not sure what my choice said, but I’ll take it as a compliment that I made a convincing nun.
We’ll see if I can pull some good costumes together this year. If I do, I’m sure there will be pictorial evidence.

You have to post pictures!
Was that a Darth Vader Lego remade into a nun?
Karen, I’ll see if I can dig up a picture of me as a nun. Most of our stuff is in storage but we’re planning to have a garage sale in the next several weeks so I’ll have access to the snaps eventually.
Ate R, actually it’s a Playmobil Nun! Pretty interesting for a toy manufacturer to make one, I think.
