Doubletree Hotel Cookies

Randy and I are on the road for a couple of days and are staying in a Doubletree Hotel, a chain in the Hilton [hotel] Family that we don’t normally use. The staff has been quite nice, putting us on the executive floor (free drinks and hors d’oeuvres at 5:30) because, I believe, I flashed my Hilton Honors card when we checked in. The best part so far has been the warm, chocolate chip cookies.

We had a to wait a few minutes when checking in for the front desk to get confirmation from housekeeping that rooms on the executive level were ready. While we waited they provided Randy and me with two warm, chocolate chip and walnut cookies. It was a lovely surprise. On the small bag (thoughtfully made with recycled paper) that held each treat was a little blurb:

WHY A COOKIE? Simple. Cookies are warm, personal and inviting. Much like our hotels and the staff here that serve you. So, many years ago we decided to start giving our guests fresh-baked cookies at check-in as a symbol of our unique kind of hospitality and commitment to comfort. In other words, we think cookies are the best way for us to say, “Welcome.”

Interesting marketing. It worked for me though, especially getting an extra cookie because of having to wait.

The cookies are absolutely delicious, and I dare say, better than the warm cookes from Mrs. Fields.

Again, from the Doubletree cookie bag:

Ingredients: Ghiradelli® Chocolate Chips, Flour, Walnuts, Butter, Sugar, Brown Sugar, Eggs, Rolled Oats, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Vanilla Extract, Baking Soda, Salt, Cinnamon.

As with any recipe, the quality of the ingredients makes the difference. Ghiradelli® does make great chocolate. I understand the bit of cinnamon which would add some spice and warmth to the taste but I’m baffled by the addition of lemon juice. I’ll have to look into that.

I highly recommend these cookies and you don’t even have to check in to a Doubletree Hotel to get them. As with so many commodities today, you can buy them online. I think they’d be perfect with some Ben and Jerry’s especially for chick flick night with girlfriends. Frankly a tin of the cookies would be welcomed anytime in my house.

Yeah, I think I’m in love.
