On our way out of Charlottesville, VA on Friday, we decided to see what food places were at the mall and stumbled across an old favorite of mine, Red Robin(R). “America’s Gourmet Burgers and Spirits” is their tagline and they do live up to it with a great menu. They have 253 restaurants across the U.S. and Canada, but sadly there are none in Kentucky so finding them in Virginia was pretty exciting.
Randy and I both ordered the Banzai Burger(TM) which is marinated in teriyaki sauce and topped with a grilled pineapple slice, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise. I believe this is their best burger although I think my sister’s favorite is the Teriyaki Chicken Burger which is the same except it is a chicken breast (duh) and it is topped with Swiss cheese instead. The Banzai Burger(TM) is definitely multi-napkin fare. I believe I used a total of five large napkins as Randy threatened several times to take my picture as I looked about three years old with giant splotches of teriyaki sauce and mayonnaise across my face. It was bliss.
I have a recipe for the Banzai Burger(TM) and will be trying it at home this week, as I need to relive the culinary experience. If you’d like a copy, just let me know in the comments section. I understand that Red Robin(R) uses ground Angus flank steak in their burgers which is why they’re so tasty but I’m sure a good sirloin or chuck with its fat intact would do for us non-restaurateurs.
As fans of blue cheese, we eat our Red Robin(R) fries dipped in their fabulous blue cheese dressing. Yummy. I highly recommend a bolder condiment as their steak fries are too bulky for the sweetness of ketchup (I’m a Heinz girl) but too slender to be treated like a potato skin. And if you’re not shunning carbs, Red Robin(R) has a “bottomless” steak fries policy (i.e., all the fries you can eat).
If somehow you actually have room left in your stomach after a meal at Red Robin(R), I suggest their Mountain High Mudd Pie. I have a recipe for that too but I’d eat the whole thing and that would be bad.

I would like a copy of the banzai burger recipe.
Thanks
Ella
