I’ve moved to a wonderful place. Well, really, I don’t know too much about Charlottesville, but I do know that they are close enough to Athens, TN that the Harris Teeter (grocery store) stocks Mayfield ice cream, specifically Moose Tracks!
I know other companies make Moose Tracks or some similar knock-off but there is nothing like Mayfield Moose Tracks. It’s the fudge that they weave throughout the ice cream that makes the difference. The chocolatey goodness is made by Denali and I usually eat around the ribbon of fudge and save it for last. Tasty.
If you’re around Athens, TN or Braselton, GA be sure to visit the Mayfield visitors centers. They’re free and full of photo ops.
For now, I’m going to grab a big spoon and sit back with my half-gallon of heaven. Don’t worry, I’ll scoop a serving into a bowl first — no eating out of the carton for me.

Mmmmm, moose tracks! I also love Mayfield’s turtle tracks ice cream. I can almost taste it just thinking about it….. Sweet dreams tonight!
You’re right. Turtle Tracks is good too. It’s all about the fudge.
more of a question—we live in Lake City, SC….my question is why can’t the stores in our area stock orange pinappe ice cream—-we have asked and were told that this is a seasonal item, but it does not seem to be stocked during any season.
thanks
Brooks, I’m not sure why your stores won’t stock it. One would think that since you live in a pretty large community, more variety would be available. Maybe that flavor isn’t as popular.
If you’d like to try to make orange pineapple ice cream at home, here is a link to a recipe that I found. Good luck!
