Ahh, Arizona. I realize that the whole state isn’t this beautiful high dessert landscape like here in the Phoenix area. I find myself entranced by the terrain: the shades of brown and orange, the rocks, the cacti. It’s warm and dry — I’d forgotten that the temperature here changes when one walks from a sunny spot into the shade, a foreign sensation in the humid south.
Outdoor living here sounds lovely but the abandoned pools in Arizona are contributing to the health hazard of the West Nile Virus. Residents have unknowingly created mini-swamps in their backyards — perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Oh well, no place is perfect.
For now, I’m enjoying the unusual landscape, the wondrous variety of creation. It’s truly breathtaking.
