Mmm . . . just got back from getting a massage and I feel nice and relaxed. As part of our gym membership, we get to try out some spa services at a discounted rate so tonight was my night to get a massage. I’ve had massages before and it seems that I usually get some giant guy named Sven or a tiny, petite wisp of a woman. Tonight I had the latter, a wee masseuse who surprised me with her strength and ability to throw her weight into the massage.
It’s pretty rare that Randy and I get massages as the going rates are usually out of our budget. When we lived in Kentucky we found the Lexington Healing Arts Academy in Lexington. The students are required to do a clinical internship which meant good massages at a reasonable price. A year or so ago, we paid $30/hour and were not allowed to tip the students as it was part of their curriculum. $30? The going hourly rate at the time for licensed massage therapists was $65+. I know there’s an accredited school of massage here in Charlottesville and I’m hoping they have a similar deal. I’ll have to look into it.
My trapezius is wonderfully loose again, the awful knots that reside there have been temporarily vanquished. It’s wonderful. I think I’ll prescribe myself another one as soon as I can save up my pennies.

I’m a big fan of the Lexington Healing Arts Academy massage–I only get there about three times a year, but ahh, bliss!
