Today is my birthday and the first birthday of this blog. Although I haven’t posted much lately, I can say that blogging has really changed my life. It’s helped me to pause and think a little more instead of just rushing through life.
We spent today celebrating something much bigger though: the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I love Easter Sunday with the celebration hymns and the joy and hope that fill the day. I think it is a tiny glimpse of what it will be like in heaven when we’re united with our Heavenly Father and that realization puts this life in perspective.
My only sadness that is that we can’t be with our Orthodox friends in Kentucky next Sunday when they celebrate Pascha (”Easter” to us unorthodox) next Sunday (the Orthodox church follows the Julian calendar so it is rare that our observance of Easter and their Pascha falls on the same day). On the Orthodox Church of America website, there is a nice piece written by Father John Matusiak about Easter and Pascha and in it he speaks of how the resurrection should be something we celebrate continually and not just one day a year. I couldn’t agree more.
Christ is Risen!

We will miss you greatly. We will make cardboard cut outs of the two of you and place in the pew. Then we won’t feel too bad that your not there. Thank you for posting the writing from Fr. Matusiak. By partaking of the Eucharist we celebrate the Resurrection every Sunday, and we should remember not to forget the Resurrection as we often can do.
He is risen indeed!
