I’m trying contact lenses but the jury is still out. It’s day two and luckily they don’t feel as awful as they did yesterday; today the lenses just feel weird which is an improvement as before I wanted to claw my eyes out. I’m going to use them for at least a week to give them a real go.
According to the Contact Lens Council (who knew there was one?), Leonardo da Vinci sketched and described several types of contact lenses back in 1508. Is there anything he didn’t think about?
I thought that putting in contact lenses would be easy as I’m used to touching my eyes, like when a stray bit of mascara goes wandering. Nothing really prepared me though for watching my own fingertip come at me. I cannot keep from blinking to save my life. How do people do this everyday?
My groovy black-rimmed glasses have become a part of my personality and it’s hard to imagine parting with them. They were the springboard several years ago to move away from a terrible downward spiral towards “frumpy” back towards somewhat “hip.” Those frames changed my life.
Of course, contact lenses could usher in a whole new chapter of style for me. I suppose I shouldn’t judge the possibilities too quickly. The trick for me is to try not to think of these contact lenses as “discs of pain” but as opportunities for change — that’s a tough sell. Only five days left. . .
P.S. Please excuse the horrible pun in the title of this post. I must be channeling our friend Brian. I mean that in the nicest way, Brian!

Repeated experience. That’s how you get used to new experiences that initially seem to fit into a pattern of previous pain. Just as long-abused people take a long time to believe that trustworthy people actually do exist in the universe, so your eye (that is, you) will have to learn over time that some objects are trusted, safe, and allowed to move straight towards your eyeball. Don’t worry, you’ll get there.
PS–If you had a slow-cooker that only worked well in the presence of linguistically clever, loud, rebellious music, would it be a Pun Crock?
I’m an eye freak as well; a la Rachel Green. I don’t like drops or anything touching my eyes; blah. I hope you are getting used to it though! PS. How’s the Mini?
