Ever since we went on two vacations last month, our apartment has slid down that slippery slope into mayhem. It’s as if we leave that one dirty plate in the sink and the next day the sink and counters are full of dirty dishes. The same goes with all the incoming mail that stacks up and clean laundry that doesn’t get put away. Well, I’ve hit rock bottom and have been on a cleaning and organizing spree.
Today I attacked our closet and ruthlessly filled two 30-gallon garbage bags of clothes that are wearable but we don’t wear for one reason or another. How many sweatshirts do two people really need? I used my label maker (a different model than the one pictured ) and actually made labels to hang on our shelves labeling all the stacks of clothes (e.g., “t-shirts,” “pajamas,” “jeans,” etc.) It looks so cool! It was practically Martha-Stewart-esque. Our hanging clothes are organized by type and color but I’ve been doing that for a couple of years now and besides being aesthetically pleasing, it does make getting dressed a lot easier.
I have to say that my label maker is one of the best things I’ve ever bought. I’ve owned mine since for several years now and it has proved itself an invaluable tool. Not everything in our home is labeled but a lot is. It’s just been easier to identify what something is or where something goes.
Perhaps I’m on the edge of becoming a Monica-Geller-like-clean-freak but I doubt I’ll ever slide down that side of the slippery slope. My hope is that we’ll have gotten rid of enough extra stuff and organized what we do have so that I won’t have to spend as much time doing upkeep as I will doing other things I like to do . . . like blogging. For now, I’m back to straightening and categorizing the books on our bookshelves. What fun! No, really!
